Google is Planning to Open Its First U.S. Retail Store

March 12, 2014 By Silki Guha

Google finally seems all ready for the inauguration of its first retail store in the U.S, New York. Anxious investors should cheer the moment as the new retail store can be expected to give Google a new platform to promote and sells its hardware products.

Google is not a search engine company anymore. Almost everyone knows how diversified this company has been in terms of exploring new market opportunities and entering new product categories. Therefore, for Google, the retail store would work as a best place to showcase its new product range like Google Glass or Chromebook laptop.

Maybe entering into a retail business is not the first time thing for Google; but, it’s definitely its first try in the US. Google has its dedicate retail stores in Australia and Europe. However, it seems Google can take great advantage of its new store which is going to be located in such a high profile neighbourhood in the US. When it comes to its competitors, there are other tech companies as well who are doing quite good. For example, Apple and Microsoft have been in this style of business practice for quite a long now. Moreover, the company has turned its retail business into a real profit making venture. So, it’s now clear that if Google can manage its store well, it can work like the best product promotion platform for its any forthcoming hardware and software.

To be very precise, the retail location would be Manhattan’s SoHo neighbourhood. If taken a right approach, Google will be able to target a very premium category consumers with the help of its new store. There are other rumours as well. Earlier Google was planning to open a store, especially for its Glasses. From the product design perspective, it makes sense. Google needs to customize its glasses to fit the user’s head. This is done to make the view clearer and the user’s experience more comfortable. So, from this point of view, having a permanent space makes a complete sense. With the help of its new retail space, Google’s staff will be able to cater to individual customer’s need in a better way. Even that way Google will be able to hire Glass specialists, who will be there in the store to listen to customer’s complain or solve a problem related to its product.

If Google can manage its store properly, the new retail space will give its present and upcoming products a huge exposure. Analysts believe Google could also use the retail space to display its software embedded in the TV and set top box. Google has also entered the Smartphone business era. It now sells Smartphones, known as Nexus, that runs on its Android platform. Last year Google sold many Smartphones and tablets units online. But now, to sell its different home entertainment systems that are based on Android, Google will be able to use its retail space. In all, it can be said that with a right attitude and better management system, Google can use its retail space several ways.

Analysts should keep an eye on all updates regarding store developments. And investors, who chase Google stocks, should be optimistic about the company’s latest decision.
